About the Work
Support is a large-scale triptych that reflects on interdependence, gratitude, and the quiet strength that allows growth to occur. Inspired by mountain landscapes and the experience of being held by others, the work celebrates moments of elevation made possible through care, trust, and shared effort.
The three-panel format creates a rhythm of balance and movement, echoing the way support is often distributed rather than singular. The painting holds an atmosphere of ascent - release, relief, and the freedom that comes from not carrying everything alone.

Process & Place
The work began as a plein air underpainting created at the summit of Alyeska, overlooking Girdwood Valley and Turnagain Arm. This on-site foundation anchors the painting in place and presence. Back in the studio, layers of texture and color were built gradually, using both brush and palette knife to evoke the aliveness of summer growth and lingering snow.

Support is part of the Motherhood – Play Collection, a body of work exploring joy, difficulty, and transformation through layered abstraction and intuitive mark-making. Created during a return to painting, the work balances structure and spontaneity, inviting sustained looking and personal interpretation.

The playful nature of experimentation, adventure, and curiosity at the heart of my art practice was only able to come alive again for me as a new mom with support from my family. For instance, I was only able to make this piece because my parents watched my toddler so I could paint. My family are my mountains.
