About the Work
VOICE is a 30 x 40 inch acrylic painting that explores the emergence of expression after a prolonged period of inward formation.
The work began over a decade ago as two ravens moving toward one another within an abstract field. For years, a central raven remained latent - present only as a ghost image - until it emerged with clarity and force. This long gestation is embedded in the surface of the painting, which holds both restraint and release.
Rendered in the unapologetically intense pigment of phthalo (phthalocyanine) blue, the composition carries emotional charge ranging from deep stillness to heightened intensity. Ravens, long associated with intelligence, adaptation, and communication, become here a metaphor for voice arriving fully formed after silence.
Voice marks a turning point: the moment when inner knowing moves outward, when articulation replaces containment.

Artist Reflection
Many traditions describe a woman's life as a series of archetypal passages - maiden, mother, wise one - each marked by profound physiological and psychological change. The transition into motherhood carries real losses, but it can also bring unexpected gains.
For me, this passage sharpened intuition and strengthened voice. I found myself more able to name what I need, to set boundaries, and to speak with clarity rather than compression. Voice reflects that shift - an opening rather than a disappearance, an expansion of agency rather than its diminishment.
