About the Work
DIVE IN - This richly textured 19x15-inch oil on canvas beckons the viewer to step into a portal of saturated light and dreamlike movement. The hand-built floating hemlock frame adds to the feeling of viewing another world.

About This Collection
Dive In is part of the Motherhood – Play Collection, a body of work exploring joy, difficulty, and transformation through layered abstraction and intuitive mark-making. Created during a return to painting, the work balances structure and spontaneity, inviting sustained looking and personal interpretation.

Artist Reflection
This piece began as a plein air underpainting made at Diamond Ridge Peony Farm in Homer, Alaska overlooking the incomparably beautiful Kachemak Bay. I was attending a multi-day workshop hosted by Stephan Fine Arts that blended hands-on artistic practices with consciousness work. Going to the workshop was actually a last ditch effort to see if I could rekindle my painting practice, which I deeply desired but had been unable to do since becoming a mother and stepping away from my previous professional role. The workshop worked. The consciousness sessions led by Ethan Martin - especially contemplating the phenomenons of curiosity, judgement, and honesty - broke something free for me and I was able to paint with a spirit of "I wonder what will happen next!"
